The big news this week is that a second horse in Franklin County tested positive for EEE. This horse actually became ill around the same time as the other one, but the diagnosis was delayed because EEE was not initially suspected. This puts the town of Swanton at high risk now.
In your area, mosquito activity has decreased but we’re still finding some positives. Most of the recent EEE positive pools have been in Whiting, with one this week in Sudbury as well. WNV still seems to be showing up as well. The latest round of testing had positives in Brandon, Cornwall and Alburg.
I know I sound like a broken record, but this means there is still a risk for both infections in your area (as well as the rest of the state) and this will likely be true until we get a good hard frost.
Hope you are all well.
