REPEL, INSPECT, REMOVE… How to Avoid EEE, WNV & LYME DISEASES

I attended a meeting last night in Brandon put on by the Health Department for Town Health Officers. Bill Johnson, the town’s Health Officer was also in attendance.  They were talking about EEE, West Nile Virus and Lyme Disease. They are pushing prevention, so the catch words are:

REPEL, INSPECT & REMOVE.

REPEL, the insects that are biting (mosquitos & ticks).  INSPECT your body after having been out in the words, etc. & REMOVE ticks that are attached.  The presenter made a big deal about not getting to panicked if you find a tick on you. Generally, the tick will not transmit any disease for 24 hours or more, but that is why it is good to shower (washes them away) and check for ticks regularly.

So far this year, there has only been one pool of mosquitos that has tested positive for EEE and that was in Grand Isle.  The state is not planning to do aerial spraying at this point, unless things change with the testing results.
