Cornwall Town Office to be Temporarily Closed to the Public as of March 18, 2020

Message from the Town of Cornwall

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Town office will be temporarily closed to the public beginning March 18, 2020 and continuing until April 6 or until further notice.
Meetings of all boards will be cancelled or be held through virtual methods in accordance with the Open Meeting Law until further notice.

What if I Need Something?

Sue Johnson will be working behind closed doors during this time to ensure vital functions of the Town can occur. They will be available to assist you by phone, mail, fax and email.

DOG LICENSES: You can leave your payments and an updated copy of your rabies certificate for each dog in the drop box to the right of the door or send via USPS and we will mail back the new tags.

TAX PAYMENTS: The second installment of property taxes are due on May 1, 2020. You can leave your payment in the drop box to the right of the door or send via USPS, FEDEX or UPS and we will mail back receipts if requested.

TAX BILL COPIES: If you need a copy of your tax bill, please call or email us! We can email and fax copies to you or your tax preparer or mail them to you.

LAND RECORDS RESEARCH: No in person records research will be allowed at this time. We WILL NOT conduct research for anyone regardless of the current situation as we do not carry Title Insurance and could be held liable should incorrect documentation be mistakenly sent. If you have deed references (book/page) you may request documents be mailed or emailed to you with an invoice attached. We will also scan and send index cards for land records research.

OTHER PAPERWORK ITEMS: During this temporary closure, the town can still provide Vital Records, Green Mountain Passports, DMV registrations, however, these will all have to be done with paperwork that is dropped off in the drop box, mailed in or emailed in to the office. Likewise, payments can be mailed in or dropped in the drop box.

CORNWALL FREE PUBLIC LIBRARY: The Cornwall Library will also be closed to the public during this temporary closure. The Trustees are going to work quickly to put the WEB OPAC system into place during this time of closure. This system would allow our patrons to see what we have in the library collection, see if it is available, make a request, etc. The Trustees are willing to check books out and either have them prepared for pick up or drop them off. An email will be sent out when that system is up and running.

Please go to healthvermont.gov/covid19 for the most up-to-date state information and guidance about COVID-19, including information from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). You may call the VT Department of Health at 802-863-7240, or call community services information at 2-1-1.

Please consider using proper handwashing techniques and social distancing recommendations.

Thank you for understanding that these are unusual times, requiring precautions for public safety and health. As there are Cornwall residents who are in the high-risk group, we believe that taking these precautions will help keep ourselves and our community members healthy. Take Care All,
