May 14, 2020 Update to the Town’s Response to the COVID-19 Pandemic!

Updated Message from the
Town of Cornwall, May 14, 2020
In continuing response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Town office will remain temporarily closed to the public until further notice. I am starting to collect and gather the supplies that will be necessary for reopening the office. I am thinking that I “may” reopen to title searchers on June 2, 2020, but by appointment only and only on a couple days per week to see how it goes. I will require the use of face coverings, gloves, and social distancing. The searcher will have to supply their own pens, paper, etc. I will bring the card files, books and other materials to the person and return them to the vault.
We would also like to open curbside drop off and pick up for the library on June 2 as well. In the meantime, if you are a library patron, you should receive a letter of explanation and your UserName and PIN for using our new Web Online Public Access Catalog (webOPAC). This will allow you to see our collection and request a book or movie and/or renew items you might currently have. There will be more information in the letter. Also, please be aware that although we are wiping books down with disinfectant and quarantining them for a period of time, they are not guaranteed 100% free from the virus.
I will not be opening the office to everyone until I see how this controlled reopening goes. I will also be monitoring the state’s reporting on the virus numbers, and how the reopening of the state is going. Please feel free to call me with any needs you may have.
Meetings of all boards will be held through virtual means using GoToMeeting or Zoom technology. If you wish to attend a meeting, the instructions to join will be included on the agenda of each meeting. If you have any trouble accessing the meetings, please let Ben Marks or Sue Johnson know so the problem can be addressed.
What if I Need Something?

Sue Johnson will be working behind closed doors during this time to ensure vital functions of the Town can occur. You can reach Sue by phone: 462-2775, email: cornwallvt@shoreham.net or townofcornwall1761@gmail.com. The Listers will be working from home and can be reached at their email: cornwall.listers@gmail.com. The Listers phone number is 462-3386. The town’s fax number is: 462-2606. The town’s mailing address is 2629 Route 30, Cornwall, VT 05753. I will be available to assist you by phone, mail, fax and email.
 DOG LICENSES: Were technically due, April 1. The late fee is not being charged at this point, so don’t worry about that. You can leave your payments and an updated copy of the rabies certificate (if necessary, remember I keep the valid rabies certificates on file until they expire) for each dog in the drop box to the right of the door or send via USPS and the new license and tags will be mailed back to you. Fees are: Spayed/Neutered dog $9.00, Not spayed/Not neutered dog $11.00.

 TAX BILL COPIES: If you need a copy of your tax bill, please call or email with the request! I can email and fax copies to you or your tax preparer or mail them to you.

 LAND RECORDS RESEARCH: I will look to reopen for title searches on June 2, 2020 by appointment only. I will require that you wear facial coverings, gloves, observe social distancing rules and use your own equipment. I will retrieve the items that you need from the vault and will return them as well.

 OTHER PAPERWORK ITEMS: During the time that the office is closed, the town can still provide Vital Records, Green Mountain Passports, DMV registrations, however, these will all have to be done with paperwork that is dropped off in the drop box, mailed in or emailed in to the office. Likewise, payments can be mailed in or dropped in the drop box.

 CORNWALL FREE PUBLIC LIBRARY: The Cornwall Library will look to open for curbside drop off and pick up on June 2, 2020. As mentioned earlier in this notice, you will receive information about the curbside access and the new webOPAC system.

Currently, the library is not taking book donations. We do not have a good location to store them outside of the building. We will need and want donations down the road, but not right now. Thank you all.

Please go to healthvermont.gov/covid19 for the most up-to-date state information and guidance about COVID-19, including information from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). You may call the VT Department of Health at 802-863-7240, or call community services information at 2-1-1.
Please consider using proper handwashing techniques, facial coverings and social distancing recommendations.
Thank you for understanding that these are unusual times, requiring precautions for public safety and health. As there are Cornwall residents who are in the high-risk group, we believe that taking these precautions will help keep ourselves and our community members healthy.
