Updated Message from the
Town of Cornwall, April 1, 2020

In continuing response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Town office will remain temporarily closed to the public until further notice. We planned to reopen next week, April 7, but taking into consideration the actions of the Governor and the continuing spread of the virus, the office will be closed until further notice.

Meetings of all boards will be held through virtual means using GoToMeeting technology. If you wish to attend a meeting, the instructions to join will be included on the agenda of each meeting. If you have any trouble accessing the meetings, please let Ben Marks or Sue Johnson know so the problem can be solved.

What if I Need Something?

Sue Johnson will be working behind closed doors during this time to ensure vital functions of the Town can occur. You can reach Sue by phone: 462-2775, email: cornwallvt@shoreham.net or townofcornwall1761@gmail.com. The Listers will be working from home and can be reached at their email: cornwall.listers@gmail.com. The Listers phone number is 462-3386. The town’s fax number is: 462-2606. The town’s mailing address is 2629 Route 30, Cornwall, VT 05753. I will be available to assist you by phone, mail, fax and email.

 DOG LICENSES: Are technically due today, April 1. The late fee is not being charged at this point, so don’t worry about that. You can leave your payments and an updated copy of the rabies certificate (if necessary, remember I keep the valid rabies certificates on file until they expire) for each dog in the drop box to the right of the door or send via USPS and the new license and tags will be mailed back to you.

 TAX PAYMENTS: The second installment of property taxes are due on May 1, 2020. You can leave your payment in the drop box to the right of the door or send via USPS, FEDEX or UPS and we will mail back receipts if requested.

 TAX BILL COPIES: If you need a copy of your tax bill, please call or email with the request! I can email and fax copies to you or your tax preparer or mail them to you.

 LAND RECORDS RESEARCH: As the office is closed, title searches are not permitted at this time. I am willing to make copies of, or scan requested land record copies and send them to the requestor. I will also send copies of index cards that relate to a search. In other words, I will try my best to help facilitate any requests for records short of doing a title search.

 OTHER PAPERWORK ITEMS: During the time that the office is closed, the town can still provide Vital Records, Green Mountain Passports, DMV registrations, however, these will all have to be done with paperwork that is dropped off in the drop box, mailed in or emailed in to the office. Likewise, payments can be mailed in or dropped in the drop box.

 CORNWALL FREE PUBLIC LIBRARY: The Cornwall Library will also be closed to the public during this temporary closure. The Trustees are going to work quickly to put the WEB OPAC system into place during this time of closure. This system would allow our patrons to see what we have in the library collection, see if it is available, make a request, etc. The Trustees are willing to check books out and either have them prepared for pick up or drop them off. An email will be sent out when that system is up and running.

Thank you for understanding that these are unusual times, requiring precautions for public safety and health. As there are Cornwall residents who are in the high-risk group, we believe that taking these precautions will help keep ourselves and our community members healthy.
